Question:

Should i hear my parrot breathing after flying ??

after my 10 weeks old quaker parrot flies around the room once he lands i can hear him breathing, is this a sign of a respiratory problem and what should i do, i am taking him for a check up at the vet tomorrow anyway

  1. It might be just because he is unfit! But definitely mention it to the vet.

  3. No, it's not a problem at all. I use to worry the same thing about my African Grey and learned that it is perfectly natural. The exercise is good for your bird and he needs it daily. If wings are clipped, hold him on your finger, thumb holding his feet in place and make him flap his wings often.

  4. I think you should be worried more about clipping his wings than catching breath after flight. It's perfectly normal, but you need to keep the wings clipped unless you have him in an aviary where he can fly freely.. But I suggest he is in a regular cage, trust me; keeping the wings cut will keep him safe. Your vet can tell you how to do this too instead of paying 20$ to get it done at a petshop.

  5. I've just brought my baby senegal parrot home and he does exactly the same.  It is normal due to the amount of space they have to fly in they have to do more work and they are still babies so not really used to flying yet and I know with mine he seems to panic a little until he sees my arm or head to settle on :o)
