  1. No, that is not what the Army is really like.  Black Hawk down if a fictionalized portrayal of what happened in Somalia, although some of it is accurate, the film makers did take creative license and made changes.  1 example is that the military was jamming cellular communication, so the scene with the Somali kid phoning the war lord would not have happened.

In all honesty the military, including the Army is often incredibly boring.  After you complete basic training, you will have moments of time in which you are extremely bored.  Having served during peace time, I can attest that you will spend a lot of time on various duties like: picking up trash.  This of'course depends on what your job is and how much training you will be conducting.  As a medic assigned to WBAMC, the hardest part of my job was not falling out of the chair while on the ward.

  2. If you are serious about joining start now.It takes awhile especially if you have to get waiver's and such medical records etc.Don't believe everything you see on tv, tv is entertainment based 99.9% of the time.I have been trying to join for almost 4 months now, word of advice if something isn't in your medical records don't mention it because it is a pain to get records and such. one of those don't mention it and it didn't happen things. If you ask me then yes you should , it will make you a better person, more disciplined, give you a head start in life and pay for college if you are looking for that . Go talk to a recruiter watch some videos from the recruiter etc, etc. I just graduated in june so if you want to talk about the army I can help you out and save you alot of time contact me at jparmyman08@yahoo.com

  3. i feel you should join the army but that is only if you feel that you have to serve your country and that you know that it will be hard at first but if you do live through all that and get enough experiance than you should do okay on the battle field

  4. I wouldn't join because you will be sent to Iraq!  Even National Guard isn't safe.  Black Hawk Down is just a movie, they have to play it up to the audience.

  5. Yes and no. It is still Hollywood, but the general idea is correct. But the only real MOSs represented in that movie is infantry (11b). There are many other jobs in the army.

Dont get your research from Hollywood. Go to goarmy.com

  6. I am in the Army.  I've never been shot down while riding in a Blackhawk.

I was in Somolia during the same period that "Blackhawk Down" was depicted.  The Rangers were admirable.  Their courage, commitment, responsibility and professionalism to their espirit de corps was in the best interest of the US Army, and I tell my soldiers to never accept defeat and never leave a fallen comrade.

Join the Army because you want to defend this nation.  Don't join it because actors on a movie (which I've seen and is a great movie) may have depicted courage, bravery and integrity in a manner that may not portray you in combat.

Oh, if you re-watch the movie, when the Rangers came running into the gate - the guard at the gate was me when I was stationed there.

  7. yes because you would help our country and be a hero people look up to!
