Tried to smog my car today , how to fix these

2000 honda prelude SH

visual inspection : pass

emissions: pass

Functional Check : FAIL!

P0108 MAP/BARO CKT High Input

P0122 TPS Sensor A CKT Low Input

P0505 Idle Ctrl System Malfunction

  1. The trouble is not just the car won't pass smog, it is also not running as efficiently as it could.

    You may not feel a significant loss in performance. But you will probably notice your fuel economy isn't what it could be.

    Let's not forget the "boy cried wolf" situation. By that I mean your check engine light is on right now with these codes in memory. You have probably become use to having the light on and pretty much ignore it. But what if a more serious fault occurs that demands immediate attention. You aren't going to know because the light is on already, so you continue to ignore things.

    I would strongly urge you to address these codes and forget the illegal smog.  


  2. Who's going to certify and smog it for $150?  See if  they'll fix the problems and get you a legit smog for $150 and you won't have to worry about that next time.

  3. You passed the emissions, so an illegal smog fix is not going to help.

    Those errors look like minor computer glitches. Get a mechanic or a parts store to interpret the codes for you, then decide from there. Possibly a reset is all that is needed.
