  1. It's really up to you.  When I took my law degree I sold on the books but kept all other material for a while.  Same with the degree in Psychology.

I regret getting rid of them.  To me they were a reminder of the hours of study, hard work but more importantly the achievements they led to.

If I were you though I would keep all material until you have completed your studies.  You may need to refer back.

  2. I kept all mine for a couple of years after finishing uni until I was sure that I wouldn't need them again.  If you have only just finished your first year, you don't know if you will need them again during the rest of your course.  I magine how gutted you would be if you chucked them and then 6 months later, needed them for reference!!

  3. I kept everything pertaining to my major (physics education), but sold/discarded all my elective and gen. ed. class notes.  Since I teach physics I wanted to have those materials available, but the rest I figured I could live without.

  4. It is really up to you. Next year you will get new material(books, lecture notes, etc.) so if nothing you have now interests you then go ahead and toss them.

  5. If you think you might ever teach, keep the lot.

  6. I burned all mine when i finished final year.. I wouldn't throw away your first year stuff though if you not finished yet..

  7. Keep them, at least until you finish studying altogether!

As you progress through university you may find you need them - or rather the referances within them, even if you're not that great a notetaker! If you revisit topics covered in your first year later they become handy sources of referenced quotes without having to look up original sources.

Also, you'll realise how far you've come when you finish uni and look back at what you did in the first year!

The benefits of keeping them for 3 years on the offchance you need something in them far outweighs the effort!
