I have been working for a travel agency for the past 4y. I will be receiving my BAcc this December and my plan was to look for an accounting job. My goal was/is to sit for the CPA exam... I just got out of a meeting with my boss and he is offering me a pay increase (about $35,000 a year) plus 30% share of the company. He would promote me to General Manager and I would report directly to him. He says I would process payroll, taxes, scheduling of employees...etc

I am unsure whether to look for an accounting job, or to stay here. I need some guidance... He told me that he cannot afford to lose me.

  1. That sound like a real deal.  You must be a valued employee! I wonder how many employers other than me are envious of him.

I take a lot of time thinking this over and while doing this go ahead and sit for the CPA exam.  CPA s are always in demand.  I would make appointments with several C P A s and pick their brains.. Be honest tell them what you are doing and I am sure you will find those who will be honest with you.  Meanwhile you still have a good job and the rest will take care of itself depending on what your decision will eventually be.  Take your time all you have is time.  God Bless

  2. Take the job and get some accting. experience under your belt.  He's offering you a good deal.  If you are unhappy once you start, then you can always leave.  Give this new offer a chance.

  3. Take it.  I am a CPA.  All you want is to "call the shots" whereever you are.

Here's your guidance: Take it.  Get great experience.  Don't look a gift horse in the mouth.  A bird's nest on the ground is better than two in the bush.  It sounds like he DOES appreciate you.  Stay with him as long as he shows it. :)
