i have a colleague who i am close to at work, we look out for each other, we have a problem with one of our Team leaders, bit of a bully, i mentioned to a Trade Union Rep that we were both being bullied ( i have now move to another team ) and told my colleague that i had spoken to the rep but that it was in confidence, she got annoyed and i immediately apologised, next thing i know she had pulled the trade union rep and manager into a room, told the team leader what i had discussed with the rep and denied that she was being bullied.

This has now escalated to his manager.I was surprised at her reaction and wondered if i should let it go or steer well clear?

  1. Stay clear from the other workmate, thats all they are a "workmate" not a personal friend.  A  real friend would have backed you up to the hilt.  If you have a problem with a "team leader "  WTTF that is? you pull them into a corner and tell them straight.  I normally work in places where if theres a problem its heated discussion with no intermediaries sometimes culminating in blows.  I know your work environment has protocols that must be followed but for myself after 2 fellas who wouldn't hurt a fly were paid off because of the intervention of my sub ordinate who thought he was my boss! well he got a shovel threw at him for sticking his nose in where it didn't belong.  My beef my deal my war! nobody elses.  I'd have taken the flak for it but as i already knew nothing would come of it.  Stay clear of your workmate, you have a strong sense of ideals obviously they talk the talk but but can't hack the heat.  Cowards!

  2. Steer clear- she may not have wanted that much attention to the fact. In fact, you may owe her an appology. People sometimes vent to one another on a lateral level, but this does not mean that want to take action to thise above them unless harassment is involved or there is somthing clearly wrong.

  3. Both.

Consider it a lesson learned. Speak for yourself and only yourself.

  4. three lessons here

    1. never speak for someone else

    2. never trust anyone

    3. look out only for yourself

As far as the future...it ain't over...stick to your story or you'll look like a fool

  5. As far as i am aware steering clear and letting it go are both the same thing. I would not let her make a fool of you, you stuck up for her rights and yours and now shes leaving you in the ****.
