Ok so im in a bit of an ugly situation. I am on a waitlist for on campus housing at my school but they keep telling my chances of getting housing before school begins are slim, so i began looking for off campus housing but im not eager to live with people i dont know sharing a room and restroom, etc. Plus the apartments are expensive and i dont have that kind of money. Now i live about an hour and a half away from my school and i have my classes set for tuesdays and thursdays, in case i dont have somewhere to live, then i have no choice but to commute. But i need feedback here. Should i just commute if the school doesnt offer me on campus housing by the time the quarter begins, and wait until a room is available? Should i take an apartment and pray financial aid can help me pay, or what???

Can ppl please advise me as to what would be good to do...thanks.

  1. If I were you I would just commute this quarter/semester because trying to get into an apartment and pay for it just with financial aid is almost impossible.  You will need a job as well, and you will most likely need roommates if you're going to afford everything.

I live in an apartment, on my own, but I hadto be in school full time in order to receive any financial aid, and then I had to take out additional personal loans, plus work 32 hours a week just to support myself!  That was just crazy!  I had no choice though because I was an older student I couldn't realistically live in the dorms and I couldn't expect parents to help and I couldn't have stayed at home because the school was out of state.

Since you have the choice, stay at home where it is cheap, and then apply for a room next quarter/semester, because otherwise you're going to owe so much back in loans you'll be kicking yourself and even if you found roommates, there is no guarantee they will not move out, and if that happens, well you're screwed.  Well, apply now, but for an available room next quarter/semester.

  2. on campus housing allows you to get hammered at the school bar, stumble home and enjoy a hangover with the proximity to get to your morning classes.

  3. In my experience i find that off housing housing is way cheaper than on campus housing. plus the cost of commuting an hour and a half 2 days a week is a lot of money especially with gas prices so high. i think u shud juss find a off campus apt wit sum frens that way u can split the cost of rent

  4. Well you can try to find a friend who would want to rent an apartment with you, that way it will be cheaper, and you won't be living with a stranger. But if that's not possible, and the school won't give you on-campus housing, i would commute. After all you only have classes 2 days a week, maybe an hour drive is worth it. It will be a lot of gas, but at least you'll be saving money on rent. Because I think that's a waste of money to be paying for rent and living there if you only have classes 2 times a week. I don't know, tha'ts just my opinion..
