Should i mate my chinchilla?

i have a girl chinchilla thats about 7 or 8 months old. she is a grey one. i want to get a white boy thats on a wedsite ive read that some colors wont make an offspring. is it okay if i mix thoughs colors?

  1. Some color mutations in chins cause a lethal birth, or still born. But I've mated a white and a grey, so yes, that is perfectly fine.

    You will need another cage too for the female once she's pregnant. She will need to stay away from the male until about a month after birth.

    Females CAN breed at that young, buts its unmoral. They are waaayy too young, and could die during the birthing process. I would suggest waiting until about a year old.

  2. Why would you want to? There are so many unwanted chinchillas out there as it is. And where did you get your chinchillas? From a pet store or a breeder? Do you know their genetic background? There's a good chance that if you don't know any of this, you could be breeding babies with letal problems. But females need to be at least 9 months before they're bred. And there are colors you shouldn't mix, so I'd look up to see what colors exactly have these problems when bred. Please have a look at this website before considering breeding.
