Should i melt down my gold and how?

i have a lot of gold i have been saving since i was a kid and am giving it to my daughters when they are of age. I'm wondering if i should melt it down. preferably by myself and making one big nugget of it.

i have white and yellow gold.

and i don't know what i should get to do it myself

i also want to do the same w/ my silver bars

  2. I don't think you want to melt it. A lot of jewelry and precious metal coins and ingots contain references to thier precious metal content, etc. That is valuable information in appraising the value, which if missing might mean you get less when you do decide to sell.

  5. Gold melts at 1,947°F.  Your stove or an ordinary charcoal grill do not get nearly hot enough to melt gold.  Talk to a refiner, if there is one near you.  Watch out for the online cash-4-gold places, I have heard of some people who were cheated, and were very unhappy.

  6. I don't think that's legal. Ask a jeweler. You might get an appraisal on what your items are worth as is.
