I have been training in MMA for about 6 months, have a black belt in karate, some jujitsu training and very little judo. I weigh around 134 and fight at 135, trainer believes i should gain a solid 12-15 pounds and fight at 145. Im up for it, but am ready to get my first fight out of the way. Anyone who has knowledge on the situation know if this would be better for me or should i stay at 135?

  1. Fight at a weight that's comfortable for you.  Kenny Flourian tried to bulk up before going on the ultimate fighter and it kept him back in his first couple of fights.  He dropped pounds and is fighting at a more natural weight for him.  Now he's beating the h**l out of people and quickly becoming one of the dominant names in the UFC.

  2. What's the rush? If it's hard for your camp to book you fights @ 135lb then yes move up. If your struggling to keep weight then go for it and make the move. You wanna fight @ a weight that your comfortable at.

  3. what the guy said before me,  gain muscle then cut water and whatever fat on ur body and still fight at 135,  for 4 years in high school i wrestled at 171 and 160 , when i naturally weighted 180-190's , in the off season i would lift take as many protein bars, and supplements i could get my hands on then one month before the season starts i would start cutting weight, senior year i weighted 195 a month before the season pounds before the season, and in good shape, i then cut all the way down to 175 for the first match but i wrestled at 189, and then by the second around 3 weeks into the season i was at 170 wrestling 171, i felt significantly stronger and just bigger then 95% of the guys i wrestled,

so my recommendations is get up to 145, and then cut to fight at 135 again, u will have more time to re-hydrate then i did so it should not affected ur endurance, best of luck!

  4. you should put on 10 to 12 pounds and cut to 135. other wise you will start fighting people who already do that, or even cut more weight. and be at a disadvantage
