I have a wall that is all windows. Due to this it is really hot in my room. I am wondering if painting them with tempera paint will help keep it cool.

  1. how about using that space to put up artwork etc by students themselves. that way you get the panes covered and can change it as often as you want and you get the class involved - i'm sure they'll come up with great ideas & projects.

instead of using paper to paint on, you could even try painting with glass colours on transparency sheets.

  2. Whoa! I remember (waaaaay back) in elementary school a teacher who did that and the room was cooler! She used green paint.

I have the opposite problem - no windows in my classroom. :-(

  3. You probably had better check with the building principal first.

Classrooms without airconditioning are hot. Some teachers take a sheet or other material and make curtains. That would help to keep it cooler and probably look better. I imagine it's easier and probably not as expensive to make the curtains with sheets.

  4. That is so inflexible.  There may be times when you want to see outside.  Why not do something that you can remove if you want to, like a curtain, shade, or even nice paper on a tension rod?

  5. distractions ? kids?

yep an interesting celtic knot design might be cool.

get the kids to plan it and everything!

  6. I think curtains would be the better route. However, if you do want to paint them, definitely check with the principal first. Don't paint all of them. Leave some for a view of the outside.

I can't imagine not having any windows in my classroom. In fact, the back wall in my classroom is nothing but window. I like that I can open, close, raise, or lower the blinds. I LOVE to see the rain (as do the students) come down. In some spots, I even use the blinds as wall space by clipping posters and such on them with paper clips.
