I had a problem with my car, got a mechanic who use to work with my previous car to sort it he is working self employed. he had to buy a new part to sort the problem i paid him £90. two nights ago i was stuck in town with my car giving the same problem as before he 'fixed' it.. he came the next day to have a look and came back saying he has to buy another part now costing another £40.. so it seems that the previous part wasnt neccesary, can i ask him for receipt for the previous and the new part should i pay it at all???!!!

  1. This doesn't seem to be about a great deal of money, so if you don't want to fall out about it, I'd pay the £40.

Ask him to explain in layman's terms exactly what he replaced & why & ask him to explain how it's happened again & now requires a different bit. If you don't understand him, make notes & repost here, we'll try to help.

As I say, I'd pay the £40 & see how it goes.

Of course, if you get the same problem again in a short while, THEN I'd start to lose my sense of humour!

  2. no he did a terrible job of it obviously!!! he should refix it free of charge.

  3. Do you trust this mechanic, how long have you known him, did you get an estimate for the repair in the first place, or did you take his word that what he did in the first place was necessary, I certainly would get a second opinion, and if that comes up with the same solution then I would pay, if not you have another problem that you will have to look in to....

  4. ask for a receipt and get a second opinion

  5. definately ask for receipts, but maybe the first part did fix something but it might need this part too, speak to him about it and ask him too explain exactly what he has done and why and in the future use a different mechanic

  6. Your mechanic should have done more troubleshooting on the part that was not bad.sometimes vehicles can experience some crazy unexpected symptoms, occasionally you do have to do the process of elimination but not often.

  7. looks a bit dodgy to me but you can ask for a receipt wether you pay or not

  8. hmmm

  9. Sounds like a rip off to me. What did he say when it was the same fault???

Take it to a reputable garage and get their opinion. Don't pay the other guy, he's just taking the p

  10. Don't pay
