  1. use hand wraps. I broke one of my knuckles not using hand wraps. also a heavy bag refers to a punching bag in general.

  2. Always wrap your hands & also use tape if possible. I know the 1" tape is expensive so get some duc-tape but whatever you use take care of the wrist along with all the other bones in the hand. Another reason for wrapping your hands even when using a speed bag is to protect the skin around the knuckles.

Best suggestion is to look up the hand on the net to understand how its put together & how to protect it.

Goood Luck, gotta love the game!!

  3. When using a heavy bag your wrist will need the support of wraps.

on a speed bag you might be able to forgoe the wraps if you weren't already wrapped

  4. u should always wear Wraps wether u are doing pad work or bag work your hands are your tools & they are not made for punching people in the head so u need to protect them as much as possible

PS , Hitting a bag or pads with full force is only gonna damage your hands anyway u dont need to hit the bag as hard as u can u should work on movement & combination punching to head & body ,anybody can stand infront of a bag and let shots go with reckless abandon ,Box with your head not your heart has always been my moto

  5. Always wrap your hands with hand wraps or the gauze tape.

Stay away from the fancy wraps like these:

The fancy ones that I listed above are easier to put on but don't provide enough support for your wrists. I've used all three plus the everlast gel ones. I'm a power puncher and my right wrist still hurts from using these cheap products. Using traditional hand wraps allows your wrists to be aligned when you punch which reduces the chances of an injury. Cheap substitutes that don't provide enough support and won't stabilize your wrists and allows them to bend a little thus resulting in a sprain, sometimes worse.

Wrapping your hands serves two purposes; protecting your knuckles and supporting your wrists. Stick with hand wraps. All pro boxers and amateurs use the gauze tape and usually train in either the gauze or hand wraps.

I use  these hand wraps and would never consider using anything else besides the gauze tape:

    thank you for your time.

  6. Wrap up.  Wrapping yoru hands protects the small bones in your hands and wrists.  It's difficult for a broken hand to heal properly.
