i have a pair of lovebirds.i don't know about the s*x and i haven't checked it as there is no vet in the area.they laid 8 eggs.the first one was laid way back june 6 here in the philippines and now it's already july 14 here.nothing has hatched yet.i got really paranpid this morning and i got one of the eggs out and examined it.it's warm.i placed it under a lighbulb but i don't see anything.we don't have a flashlight.finall,i cracked it.there are an all yellow goo on it(the yolk).is that a sign there's going to be a baby lovebird or not?

it's already past a month.anyone who know what to do?

  1. Like I said in your other question, the gestation period for lovebird is between 23-26 days. This is when they eggs HATCH. So if a baby bird was going to be in the egg, you would of seen signs of it in the first week. No, sorry, your eggs are infertile, and like I said before, you need to remove them before they cause a sanitation problem in your cage.

    Its like the chicken eggs you buy from stores. They have yolks because they are capable of caring for a baby bird, but the egg hasn't been fertilized, so there is only a yoke, no baby as well


  2. According to a poster in the forum linked below the gestation period for lovebirds is 23 days.

    Birds do lay infertile eggs. If your bird is laying eggs you should add a calcium supplement to her diet to replace the calcium she's losing to the process of making eggs. You can get this at any pet store that carries supplies for birds.
