I am currently a senior in high school. I moved to a new school the last month of my junior year.

I participated in my old school's color guard, or the flag team, and semi-enjoyed it. I have started doing the color guard at the new school because I figured that colleges like it when students continue an activity. I have found myself not liking the girls on the color guard team here, and I have lost all interest in the activity. It costs about $1000 to be on this team, and I don't want to make my parents pay for all that money for something that lasts only 3 months. Plus, I have practice everyday from 3-6, AND a guard class during the 2nd period of my day.

I just realized that senior year is very expensive, and instead of doing the color guard, I could be volunteering for the YMCA (which I need hours for) or working, so I can save up money for applications, senior pictures, and college. And I can also have time to participate in clubs.

But then again, if I do color guard this last year, won't colleges see that as a plus?

So what should I do? Please help me out, this is tearing me up.

  1. If you are not interested in it anymore, quit.  Don't do it just because you think that it will look good on a college application if you don't like it.  Volunteering at the YMCA looks good too.

Extra Curricular activities do look good but I think it's better to do something you enjoy.

Grades and SAT scores are more important for getting into college anyway.

  2. I personally, would quit color guard. Whats the point in spending $1000 on something you don't enjoy, with people you don't like? And I think as long as your grades are good, and with you participating at YMCA and clubs and such, you should be fine getting into a college. Hope I helped!
