ive been swimming all my life but we moved and i stopped for a year but then i found this really good swimming club so i started again. sometimes i found it really hard to fit my homework around swimming, im in yr 7 and we got loads lol :( it was great at first but towards of the end of the term when we had exams i stopped going for about three weeks so i could revise for my exams and because i hadnt been i felt that i didnt want to go back to the normal ritual of having to stay up late doing homework. ive been twice since then but i just cant bring myself to start again. im a decent swimmer but im not as big or muscly as the other girls my age (im 12) and although i get medals and that im in a lower squad than them and i can never beat them. i love swimming so much but im just not good enough to go to the olympics and its alright you saying oh dont matter with training you will get there its not like that swimming takes a LOT out of you so you could train yur whole life and not get

  1. Keep swimming

  2. If you're going to start again you'll need a change of attitude. Making an Olympic team is a long shot for anyone and is not the ultimate goal for many. The Olympics doesn't have to be your ultimate goal in swimming. Your goal could be to be a swimmer in college, to make nationals, or something else entirely. You have to pick something that is hard for you right now, but is an inspiration to you in the long run. Something that you're willing to work for.

Your value as a swimmer and a person has to come from inside. External rewards like ribbons, medals, or a great body are nice perks, but what do they mean in the end? A trophy is nice for a while, but eventually it gets shoved in a closet and forgotten about. You and your hard work won't ever be shoved in a closet and forgotten about. You need to be proud of what you've done to get where you are, not who you've beat and what awards you've won.

If you really do love swimming you should go back, but maybe you need some time off to think about what you want to accomplish.

  3. QUITTER!

  4. Swim.

Fitting it into your life when your life is busy will help keep your busy life fun.

And you'll be healthy when you are older, if you keep swimming, while most of the speedy girls now will have stopped by then.

  5. I think cshell has hit it dead on, but I wanted to add my own thoughts...

You're never going to be the fastest in the water. If you think about it, for any event, there's only one person in the world who is the "fastest."  It's okay.

I started competing when I was eight years old. I didn't swim my senior year of high school because I got too busy with other things. It really hurt and I missed it a lot.

Didn't swim in college - couldn't have made the NCAA team and got involved in other sports - but after college, I found my Master's team, and I've loved it.  I found out that swimming was my true joy.

It's been hard - I get my butt kicked by 15 year olds and 50 year olds. I can't even beat my times from high school. So what? I love swimming. I started new personal best times, and I only train against myself as an adult.

I think if it's right for you, it'll draw you back one day, whether you think you want it or not.

  6. Swim just for the fun and study all you can
