over the past year my flatmate has been stealing street signs and leaving them around the house and in his bedroom.

as far as i am aware he has ripped an island cone from the road, has 3 of those orange street cones that the road workers leave in the street to help divert traffic, stolen men at work wear protection procedures signs,

he has tons of 'builders at work' road signs,

stolen 'house to let' posts and has loads more

i have spoken with him about it but he keeps doing it and i am sure doing this is illegal can i report him to the police for this??

.. do i just phone my local police station and report it??

  1. Yes what he is doing is wrong. I wouldn't do anything till I had another flatmate lined up.

  2. if you don't like your flatmate report him get rid, good riddens

if you do like him or need him then live and let live do what benefits you, selfish but you have to look out for yourself first

  3. Your flatmate seems to have a strange fixation with stealing street signs, and if the police ever see him doing it or someone reports him, they may end up knocking at your door at 5am.  You couldn't say that you didn't know about it as the entire house seems to be  filled with them.  I would get rid of them and have a serious talk to your friend before the police arrive sooner or later.

  4. Your motivation to protect yourself makes sense more than any other reason. As noted, doing so cautiously will make sure you are not caught up in it. Everyone in the house could be harmed.

Finally you might ask who would bother to turn him in anyway. Loads of people are sign snatching these days. Not that it makes it right but it is still done.

Caution is the main thing. That and I hate the thought of the police having a chin wag and taking into custody anyone unless they are dangerous criminals. People getting knifed to death is much higher up on my personal lists of crimes to sort.

  5. call your local police and report him

you dont have to give your name

  6. My view is that you should report him anonymously.  You can do this by calling Crimestoppers using their freephone number.  I think you should report him because:

    1. He is storing these stolen items in your home.  If the police were to raid your property you would have a difficult time proving that you didn't know about it and they may also arrest you to.  This could prove embarrassing for you if you're taken out of the house in handcuffs along with him - even though you weren't the one who committed the thefts.

    2. You might have a hard time proving to the police that you weren't involved in the thefts, as stolen property is obviously all over your house.  Even if you didn't commit the thefts themselves you could be charged as an Accessory to the crime.

    3. Some of the signs that your flatmate is stealing are important road signs that have been put in place to warn road users (car drivers, motor cyclists, cyclists and pedestrians) of possible hazards.  By removing those signs your flatmate is putting road users in danger, as they are being deprived of the important safety information these signs provide.  His actions could cause a serious accident to occur.

  7. If you don't like your flat mate, than I would move or have them move.  Don't be a snitch!

  8. If you are caught with that in your place, you will get in trouble too. If you are going to report him, get the non-emergency police number and file a report. You don't want to get in trouble for something you didn't do. Trust me.

  9. To Grass to the Filth is the lowest thing you will ever do in your life.

You won't be scoring any points with the Police, they hate Grasses too.

Its not like he's doing anything terrible.

If I was your flatmate, and you grassed me up for this, I would deny it, and tell them it was you, trying to set me up, over a grudge.

You might not actually get done for it, but you would get arrested, and have to spend time in custody.

And it would serve you right.

    Find some other way to get back at him, WITHOUT involving the Scuffers.;

  10. I wouldn't bother.  You'll just create bad feelings with your roommate.

  11. technically it would be stealing, but i doubt that the company who own these signs go to the police about them being stolen very often. If you wanted i suppose that you could go to the police, but they would have to get him to confess to stealing, or if not you would have to go as witness. i think its pretty harmless, and maybe a waste of police time. just talk to your friend, see if you can join in!

  12. dont report him... its fun to do bad things.

  13. Yeah, and report the thousands of other students that do the same.

Not a murderer, not a rapist, stop being holier than though!

  14. being honest i dont think you should because really that cant have a healthy relationship between you both, if you were to do it then do it anonymously, basically say something on the phone like you have just spotted him run into the house with it and give your address, act like your the concerned neighbour, dont spill ur name tho hang up when they ask, so that means he wont be a ***** to you and yet ur problem is solved
