Just got an 07 yamaha r6, and also just got my motorcylce permit, i have ridden dirtbikes my whole life and have ridden a sportster around the block a few times, my msf class does not start for another month do you think it would be ok to ride around my neighberhood by myself to get some practice in?

my buddy let me sit on his fzr 1000 94 and its more comfortable than mine , he said i could drive that around if i like?

  1. Have your buddy take it for a ride & scrub the tires in first. The release agent on the tires is very slick. Then it will be safe to take some side streets close to home & get to know your bike.

  2. Sure, just try not to lay on the throttle, that could get messy.

  3. yeah dude just hold off on the wheelies ;)

  4. yeah you should be ok just take it really easy the first few laps.  Like the dealer probly said to you, do not accel hard or brake hard for about 50-100 miles, because of the showroom wax they put on the tires. You need to give that some time to rub all off because it makes your tires really slick.  Other than that just be careful and have fun. Thats all sport bikes are about, just to cruise around and have fun on.

    Congrats on the new bike.

  5. as long as you wear a helmet it should be fine :)
