I received my new fluval canister filter yesterday and was wondering if i should use the ammonia removers that it came with? I want a healthy biological filtration system for the pair of arrowana i am purchasing soon and if i use the ammonia chips wouldn't they reduce the ammount of ammonia that the bacteria need to survive? I'm using two oscar's to "cultivate" the bacteria colony necessary to deal with the bio load that the arrowana will need to survive, and it seems to me removing ammonia would be a step in the wrong direction. the tank is established just not the canister so imma give it a month before purchasing the arro's. So back to the question ammonia chips or not?

  1. I would not use ammonia removers while trying to cycle a tank. Don't use them.

You must have a big tank Like a 280 gallon for a pair of arrowana.
