I have a 2000 dodge intrepid 4 door with about 80.000 miles on it. I have one year left on my loan I owe about 2000. The thing is the A/C is broken and the driver window (automatic windows) works but it gets stuck (hard to explain) I think its falling off the track or whatever. Questions is would it be wise for me to sell. Its a good running car except for the two things I mentioned. I know with broken a/c i doubt I can get very much for it???what should i do..just keep it and ride it out or sell???????????

  1. My advice to you is to probably hang on to it and wait until its completely paid off.  Once you pay it off,  go ahead and sell it and see what you can get for it.

  2. I would say it depends on how good the gas mileage is on the car. You don't need me to tell you how bad the economy is. It would be a great asset to have a paid off car.

True, those things are broken, but if it isn't too expensive to fix them, I'd say stick with it and fix them. You will love not having a car payment month to month.

If the gas mileage isn't good, then I'd consider getting a smaller car, maybe something you could pay cash for. I'd prefer an import like Honda, Toyota, or Nissan. I've had small cars from them and they ran forever and well!

  3. I would at least show people to see what they think. And tell you how much they are willing to buy for it.

  4. I would sell it, but the A/C problem might affect the total sell of the vehicle. im also guessing that this vehicle doesnt get very good gas mileage so you might think about that. But if you keep the car 1 year actually isnt that much so also think about that. These days its all about the mileage, and there are plenty of cheap good gas mileage cars.

  5. if you sell it you'll regret it.

    but its up to you.

  6. its cheaper to keep it.  The average life of the car is about 160k - 200k.  with $2k left to pay off, pay it off sooner than 1year.  For the A/C - less than $500 to fix assuming (at the worst) you would have to replace the compressor.  To change the freon - less than $150.  For the window, minor repair.  You can get all the work done at most $700 again assuming the worst of repairs needed.  If you sold the car now you would easily get about $4500 (much less than when you first bought it) considering the body and paint is still good with not dings or damage.

  7. If you still owe on it, keep on driving it for a few years. Since the car is less than perfect, you probably won't get much for it so I would drive it until you have saved enough money to move on to the next car. The sad part is that if you just finish paying for it and want to sell it, then you'll be stuck making payments again. I mean, if you wanted to make payments year-in and year-out, you probably should have leased. Specially since you average around 10k miles per year.

  8. does it run well? can you live without the a/c?

the driver side window is nothing to be worried about. Its a cheap fix, but the a/c is giong to cost you about 1,000

The car is only worth about 5 thousand dollars, so no sense in selling it. Keep it for as long as you can, and take good care of it. With the economy the way it is, having a car that is paid off can be a lifesaver in case you ever get laid off.
