I have two cockatiels. One is yellow and one is gray. I've had my yellow one for 8 1/2 months and my little gray since she was a baby. She is about 5 months old (i think.) I love them to death but have been having trouble finding time to play with them or see them at all. I have school and a job now. I feel like i'm neglecting them, though they still seem happy. They never pull their feathers out and my little gray loves to whistle. Would it be a bad idea to sell them?

  1. Only if you feel guilty, or they are in a tiny cage.

Birds are funny, if there are two of them they could care less about you, they have each other! Parrots may even  quit talking and may even get mean if they have  a "mate".

I would not get rid of them if I were you, cockatiels are a dime a dozen but if you are going to do it do it now while they are still babies.

Keep them, you will miss them way to much!!   :0)

  2. i too have 2 cockateils and yes sometimes im not home.

But they are happy regardless if im home or not cause they have eachother.

And they are never bored becayse i never keep them in the cage.

My whole house is like a little aviary. none of my birds are in the cage everrrrrr.

But if you think that you cant take care of them as giving them fresh water every so often or changing food or if they are in the cage all the time please then find them a good home.

  3. No, I mean, you love them; and they love you! They would be traumatized, and believe you me, your poor little birdies will go bald with the stress of you not being there.  You are all they know, don 't disappoint them; they are relying on you!

  4. no do not sell them you are going to sell them to some one who does not care about your birds. cockatiels can be alone for long periods or time. just get them a new toy every 3 weeks so they can play. place a small bowl with a little water so they can bath and play in (trust me they love that). and you can let them out of the cage. just leave the cage open they will know how to go in and out. just make sure they know how to land right when they fly to the table, coach, bed what ever. and leave all windows and doors closed.

    good luck.

and please dont sell them the person that you will give them to will not care they probably will forget to change the water feed them clean them. they love you and you love them.

    hope i helped =0

  5. If you cant take care of your animals, you should find someone who can. next time think about the life span of an animal before you decide to take them home. if everyone did, there wouldn't be soo many displaced birds out there with psychological damage from human owners.

    yea,i said psychological damage

self mutilation doesnt happen in the wild.
