  1. Skimboarding is a great activity! Sooo much fun. It takes a lot of practice to learn and might be difficult at first, but depending on your knack for balance and physical activity, it might come a little easier.

Start off with an inexpensive board. If you decide you like skimboarding and get better, a more expensive board will be worth it down the road. You can get a beginner board for around $40. I would recommend staying away from wood boards as they tend to warp and are heavier than fiberglass or foam core. Check e-bay, local shops & Craigslist. Sometimes you'll find a good deal on a used one.

First, you must master sand skimming; throw the board down on the sand when the water rolls up. Run towards the board & jump on with both feet. Bend your knees slightly and lean  over your front foot. If your weight balance is off, the board will shoot out from under you. Make sure there is only a thin layer of water under the board when you throw it down or you won't slide across the sand, you'll just sink into the water.

When you get better, eventually you can learn to ride waves. Just stick to the basics for now, and practice is the most important thing. You will probably fall, get soaked & burise your knees and shins at first. It's all part of learning, and its totally worth it!

Theres tons of good websites out there to help you with the basics, just Google "skimboarding" Also, go to http://www.YouTube.com and search for skimboarding and sand skimming videos. Watching someone else do it is sometimes more valuable that reading about it.
