should i stay in calculus? i'm a senior in highschool and i dont know if i need to take calculus, if i take it now does it mean i dont need to take it in college and take calculus 2 or does it not matter if i drop it now and take a different math class in college, like discrete math

is that even possible for a 4 year university, and if you enter a college and already want to major in arts or writing do you need to take extreme math classes?

i am really confused. (wanting to attend Cal State University)

should i just give up on the calculus and take journalism or would it be smart to take calculus because i dont know if i will have to take it in college when i get there

PLEASE HELP

  1. Whatever you learn now, will come in handy in the future, you don't want to look back 10-15 years from now going,"oh shoot, I should have taken that calculus class."

Even if you are going in the arts, colleges will take you in by a landslide if you know more than required.

  2. it doesnt really matter if you stay in it or drop it...it could come in handy in college but when you start college you have general ed's you take (everyone has to take them) math  is more than likely going to be one of them...some colleges make you take a test and depending on the score they will place you in a class...but if your good at math and feel comfortable enough with dropping it go ahead..

  3. Unless you're going to be a math/science/engineering major, you don't need calc for a CSU. It will help though if you decide to aim higher.

  4. Well, there are two classes of Calculus. There's Calculus AB, and Calculus BC. You have to take AB first, before taking BC. I think you should stay in your math class, because you would have one more class to put on your transcript, which is good for college. I wouldn't drop it unless you're absolutely failing the class, which I doubt you're doing. If you're just on a chapter in the math book that you're stuck on, ask your teacher to clarify. You shouldn't give up. :) But I think in California, the standards for graduating and going into college are 3 years of high school math. And yes, you would have to take the class in college if you didn't take it now. Good luck!!

  5. If your major is math focused, or you need to take up to or past Calc, stay in. You can always test out of it for college (whoo!). If your major is something that you only need lower maths for, drop it. No undue stress on you for something that doesn't even matter.
