I have a sony 30" HDTV ( KV-30HS420 ). I use it mostly for my xbox 360, but havn't tried to watch any dvd movies yet. I'm also planning to get the HD DVD player for my xbox 360. So would the picture quality look any different if i upgrade to 1080p ? I know in a way 1080p is better but im just asking would there be any difference for the human eye.

best answer gets 5 stars and ofcourse best answer =)

  1. On a 30" screen, you probably won't see any difference between 1080i and 1080p. I wouldn't bother to upgrade unless you have the desire, the space, and the money for a much larger TV.

  2. 1080 lines is 1080 lines - p or i.  The difference is that with an interlaced picture, the odd number lines are displaced in time from the even numbered lines by 1/60 of a second.  That matters only in the situation of fast motion in the scene - an object moving rapidly will appear to be slightly jagged.  Unless you watch a lot of high action sports, you will probably observe little difference.

  3. When watching blu-ray movies on my roomate's 65" 1080i inch rear projection tv I noticed jaggies.....on my 1080p 51" plasma no jaggies.

So the decision is 1080i=cheaper vs 1080p=no jaggies.....the choice is yours.

Like others have said though....on a tv less than 50 inches there might not be that much, if any, difference.
