I was boiling the Alfredo cream sauce with veggies. I put the lid over to simmer & when i look under the lid there was a freakin fruit fly stuck on it!!!! ewwww... i had just washed the lid before i used it & did not notice it when i covered my alfredo!.

So what do i do? do i get rid of the sauce or should i let the alfredo boil a little longer so it takes out germs. lol.

im hoping one didnt fall in that i didnt see because thats just gross!

i was making it for me & my toddler. should i still let my toddler have some??!

if i should boil longer. how much longer?

  1. Extra protein!

  2. If you saw it on the lid, it didn't touch the sauce.

If it was on the sauce, take out a spoonful around it.

The ones you didn't see won't hurt you they're cooked.

Anyway, a fruit fly isn't interested in Alfredo sauce.

  3. You're worried about eating a fruit fly?  My advice is never ever visit a commercial kitchen!

  4. This is a classic case of the insect that you saw.

Yes, it's perfectly safe, it does not have to be overcooked  to kill any germs and some facts that I would like you to read( I'll edit).

On average we eat about 1 pound of insects every year.

Insect parts( and rodent hair also).

They're in almost everything and anything.

Flour( so all breads, pasta, baked goods etc etc).

    Chocolate is loaded with them.

Tomato products are loaded with them.

Fruits, veggies and the list goes on and on.

The FDA published a pamphlet called "the food defect action level" which outlines exactly how much of this is allowed in food before they will call it contaminated( and it's quite a bit).

So it's not the bug you saw, it's all the bugs you don't see and don't even realize you're eating them( evey day) even in your cereal in the AM.

fact is, if we didn't eat insects, we'd starve to death.

Also, they are nutritious ( gross as it may seem).

    here you go.

One pic is a little nasty but read it.
