  1. Personally, I would stay and watch and you could always practice the music part with them during that part of practice time... you could always do your homework while they're learning their drill as well.

  2. I would go home since I'd be wasting my time doing nothing. I could get my homework finished too if I went home.

  3. No one would likely fault you for going home.  However, you can should that you take pride in being a member of the organization by being there.  You can sit on the sideline and play along with the music or see if there is some way you can assist the band director.  Just because you can't fully participate doesn't mean that you can participate.  This would go a long way to show your director that your making an effort to stay involved.

  4. HI Alex,

This is not a question you should be asking anyone here.  Your grade is at stake.... as well as the director's opinion of you... meaning his impression of you as a player and a musician.

Don't ask us.....  have a talk to your band director.  You said your Dr told you to avoid physical activity.... did he also give you a letter stating that?  He could have or you should have asked, knowing that you were going to be confronted with the issue in a couple of days.

Have your mom get that letter from the Dr.  You should also talk to your band director and you SHOULD stay  after for the practice.  Now we know you are not going to be participating,  but you could be watching to familiarize yourself with the show.  This will prove to the band director that you want to be a part of the band even if you can't participate for a while.

It is your call ....  but as a teacher,  I know what would be impressing me about a student who has a good attitude about band...  even when he just has to sit out.

    Thanks for reading.
