okay. so i go to a dance studio, well call it studio a. they are like my second family. i love them and the people there. but then there is 'studio b'. studio b is amazing. but they didnt used to be. everyone there improves so much every year. at studio a people improve but i dance with the older girls (im13) the dancers my age at my studio are not the best. but the dancers at studio b are amazing. for now i have a good group of people to dance with. but once they graduate i will be stuck with the group of people my age who arent very good except for like 1. i feel if i switch it would benefit me because i would become a much better dancer and be able to dance with much better people. but if i switch then i feel that i would hurt the people at the studio. i.e. the owners put my dance picture on the cover of the brochure! In summary, if i switch i will become a much better dancer. but also it would hurt the people that i love. and i am afraid they will think badly of me for moving.

  1. I can see what you want. You want to be a better dancer - a real good dancer, at that. But you have to think - do you want to be a good dancer, or a good person in the end. You said they are like family, and they even had your picture on their brochure. You are still young, and do you want to start your life with what might happen when you move to the other dance studio.

What is going to make you a better dancer is not having class with other better dancers, but how much work you put in your craft (dance). What teaching do they have that your studio does not have? You want your studio to have better dancers, then maybe you can take the initiative to make the others better by helping them or help teaching. Ask for what you need improvements from your teacher. If you are not getting it, then point it out to them. It's your home - you wouldn't move to your neighbor's home because you feel the other kid is better than you, do you? Have you seen all those movies with underdogs (not Underdog the movie) like - Dodge Ball, Strictly Ballroom, and so on... Movies about working harder to be a better who ever, thus also ending up being a better person.

Remember your Yahoo! Answer id: LIVE LAUGH LOVE - Love is family and not feeling bad about yourself for your decision, Laugh - how you are going to laugh when you feel guilty.

The decision you have to make shouldn't come with any regret. Make a decision without regrets - pick one that you feel you won't regret, and live with that decision without regrets.

  2. honestly, change is good...... why not take classes at both places?

  3. I would take classes from both.

If you want to be the best dancer possible, take any opportunity to improve.

I understand that its hard to leave your "family," I have a theatre family and that would kill me.

    Both

  4. i say take both

  5. change is good! yes it might hurt your instructors but just explain to them how you feel, i'm sure they will understand and if you know you will improve by moving i'm sure they will support you and want you to move so that you can improve

  6. depends on what you want..are you dancing because you want to socialize and have fun, or are you dancing to learn, grow and possibly make a career out of it?

Taking from both places is not always a good idea because remember it is also a buisness to the owners and there would be "awkwardness" also stress on you for juggleing 2 studios. (What is both have a rehersal on the same day?).

So, think about what you are looking for and decide. Don't worry about the owners, if you meet with them to discuss that you want to expand your experience in the dance world, she would respect and understand that decision (if she is professional). If you up & leave without an explination, then there will be hard feelings.

  7. First of all do you compete?  If so, you probably can't do both studios.  If not - do both!!  After doing both for a year (or maybe the summer?) then you can decide what you REALLY want to do.  Only you can make that decision.  If it's more important for you to dance with your friends then stay where you are but if it's more important for you to improve a lot then switch.  I know it's hard because you feel a loyalty to your studio but the object of taking dance lessons is to improve & if you could improve more at the other studio than I think that basically answers your question.  Good luck at whatever you decide!!
