i'm a junior and i have 2 AP classes, 2 Honors, 1 pre-AP class, and one elective. i usually get A's and B's. im picking my senior year classes and i decided to take:

English 4 AP

Calculus AP (BC)

Advanced Physics AP

Advanced Biology AP

Government/Econ AP

either Teacher Assistant or another AP class

I'm pretty serious about my senior year because i want to get into a good college but i don't want to be too stressed out about the work load. Do you think i should take 6 AP classes or 5 AP classes with teacher assistant so i don't get that much homework?

  1. It's quite a load but if you are successful it would look AWESOME on your high school transcript. I would say (just to alleviate some of the stress) to take the 5 APs and then the Teaching Assistant class. The 5 that you are taking have a very high demand and if you take a Teaching Assistant class, it wouldn't be as demanding as taking 6. Are you involved in extra-curricular activities as well? Keep in mind that being successful in those AP classes would be great, but colleges also love to see extra-curricular activities. You MIGHT also be able to do some of the work for the 5 AP classes in the Teaching Assistant course (I don't know how your school operates, but at the school I teach we would allow you to do that in that course...especially if we knew you were those particular AP classes).

Six AP courses would be a tremendous load for anybody and I wouldn't want to see anyone be under that much stress. The five you have are great...don't overload yourself because you will have enough with the 5 listed above.

  2. Based on what you say you've already achieved (all As and Bs in advanced level classes) I think you've got a pretty good chance of making it into a good college. You really don't need to take 6 this year, or even 5 for that matter. 5 AP classes is a huge load to take on for anyone.  Let yourself take at least one class that will be kind of easy for you - something you KNOW you'll get an A in, allowing you to kind of relax. You're definitely going to have a stressful course load, so my recommendation is to not make it any more stressful than necessary.

  3. Good for you for not slacking off on your last year of High School!  I'd reccommend only taking five AP courses.  Here's why:  it's your senior year, so you should set time aside to try to find your college and apply for as many scholarships as you can.  All that takes time.  Plus, colleges also like to look at how many community service type hours you have.  So take some time to volunteer at a local animal shelter or church.  Join some of your school clubs.  That way, you'll still be getting an excellent education, but letting yourself be well-rounded as well.  Hope this helps, and good luck!

  4. Take as many as you can handle.  I'm a senior this year and I'm taking all AP classes, hoping to maintain my 4.0.  If you think you'll do well, go for it.

  5. there are good sides to both...i would pic the 6th AP class, but teaching does give work experience
