  1. The book THE JOY OF SIGNING is a really good book to learn some basic signs from.

    Does your friend read lips?

How does s/he communicate with you?  S/he able to talk?

The Joy of Signing: The Illustrated Guide for Mastering Sign Language and the Manual Alphabet (2nd edition)

    Author: Lottie L. Riekehof

    Format: Hardcover

    Publication Date: February 1987

    Publisher: Gospel Pub House

    Dimensions: 11"H x 8"W x 1.25"D; 2.1 lbs.

    ISBN-10: 0882435205

    ISBN-13: 9780882435206

    List Price: $23.99

  2. Well, you've got the ultimate "class" in your friend.  Why don't you ask the friend to teach you.  The best way to learn any language is from a native useer of that language.  Your friend probably knows other deaf people and you can learn a lot from hanging out with them.

  3. Maybe buy a text book for that class and just read that.
