  1. TKS is right that the main supplements that help with Thyroid health can be harmful if you are Hyperthyroid.

Basically, the supplements nourish your Thyroid and that can overcome deficiencies that can contribute to Hypothyroid. However, it would be like adding water to a full glass if you took these nutrients while you were Hyperthyroid.

That being said, some of the best nutrients to help Thyroid health are Iodine (often used from Kelp, as TKS mentioned), L-Tyrosine (an Amino Acid), Coleus Forskohlii (an herb), plus most antioxidants and B-Vitamins (for general cellular support).

On the flip side of that, if you are taking any medication for your Thyroid currently, I'd suggest asking a doctor or pharmacist if there will be any interaction between them because they will both have access to a database of drug and supplement interactions. Good luck!

  2. If you are hyperthyroid it could cause serious damage.  Kelp contains iodine.

  3. I have Hypothyroid, with the accompanied hair loss and weight gain. Assuming you are hypothyroid and aren't on any other meds, a brown algae or kelp can really help. I take something called Fucothin by Garden of Life. I know it sounds like a weight loss gimick, but its not. Its brown seaweed and it increases your metabolism, makes excercise more effective, and over time it can help with hypothyroid. Most herbs can be mixed, so you can take it in conjunction with other kelp (check with an herbalist just to be sure). Its a little pricey so if you can alternate it with something else all the better, but I've had some great results over the last month.

  4. Yes it helps..But don't take too much for it may raise Arsenic levels in the blood/Urine..

  5. I'm sure you are on thyroid medication.  Never take any OTC supplementals without checking with your doctor first.  Some "harmless" items can have a bad reaction with prescription meds.

You don't say what kind of thyroid condition you have, but no matter what it is, it must be followed closely by a doctor.  The thyroid is a very delicate organ....nothing to experiment with.  Prescribed medication is enough by itself.
