  1. cnote pretty much summed it up for you there.

  2. I'd go with Muay Thai. MMA just steals bits and pieces from other martial arts.

  3. yeah

  4. muay thai is a martial art from thailand that focuses on knocking the opponent out by use of kicks, punches, knee, and elbow strikes. it is a very popular striking art however it is limited to striking by this i mean thai boxing does not allow grappling(outside the clinch) and take downs

mma or mixed martial arts focuses on knocking the opponent out or submitting them by locks or chokes. you learn how to strike along with how to fight on the ground. there is no one true style hence the name "mixed" people blend many different martial arts together to be able to fight in the three ranges: striking, clinching/take down, and ground. though any blend of martial arts can be considered mma the most popular arts typically are muay thai, boxing, kickboxing, brazilian jiujitsu, and wrestling(this of course is not a complete list)

i wouldnt call one "better" than the other especially since mma usually incorporates muay thai. mma is more complete like i mentioned earlier since it'll teach you grappling.

this is me personally but i'd go with muay thai first. i do recognize the need to know how to grapple but to me i think it will benefit a person more to learn a few "pure" styles then to transition to mma. but thats just me.

take a sample class and see which one you like more and go from there
