  1. I use mine regularly w/o battery installed.

But I let it run battery down and recharge from time to time to keep battery "healthy".

Even a charged battery will discharge over time even if not connected to anything.

  2. No, you're better off having the internal UPS in your laptop (and you also have to be careful of advise given by those who don't realise that lithium and nickel batteries have to be treated differently).

If you do want to store it then discharging the battery to 40% (not 0%) and putting it in the fridge (not freezer) will slow the aging process down but there's nothing you can do to stop it or reverse it once it has happened (and the aging starts as soon as the battery leaves the factory).  If you're using the computer you're probably better off just accepting the aging and using the battery in the computer.

Oh and ignore those who think discharging laptop batteries helps them (it doesn't, these are not Nickel batteries and do not suffer memory effect) although a discharge every few months will be needed if you want an accurate battery meter (but it won't help the battery, it'll just reset the battery gauge with accurate values).

Also don't ever let a laptop battery stay discharged for too long as you may cause the protection circuit to disable the battery permanently (it's a safety feature to prevent the battery from catching fire).

  3. I am not sure if you should do that. If the plug comes out by accident, it would just shut off. I keep my battery in. I think thats the best thing for you to do. I had my laptop for like more then 2 years and the battery still works fine today.

  4. Yeah... that's what I do.
