  1. Are you planning on applying to an engineering school?  If you're interested in studying any hard science in college, you should take Level 2.  Level 2 is a lot harder though.  L2 tests you on algebra, geometry, trigonometry, functions, and statistics.  L1 only tests you on algebra, geometry, basic trigonometry, algebraic functions, and elementary statistics.  If you've taken honors pre-calc and feel comfortable with the material, you're probably read to take Level 2.  You might even get a higher score on L2 than you would on L1 because the curve for L1 is much smaller.  You can miss 5 questions on L2 and still get a higher score than if you miss 2 questions on L1.

For preparation, I'd recommend Collegeboard's "Official Subject Tests in Mathematics Levels 1 & 2 Study Guide". Since Collegeboard makes the SAT tests, their practice tests would be most representative of the real SAT Math L2 test.

A lot of people think that taking both the Math Level 1 and Level 2 tests looks really good on your resume, but that's not necessary. If you take Math L2, you don't need to take L1.

    Good Luck!
