  1. I am a little biased being a traceur, though I have to say I always wanted to try fencing. I will suggest parkour no matter how cool I think fencing is; if you follow it in the original means (ie. not as the media portrays it et cetera) it has the capacity to benefit you in your future life. Parkour also helps you better understand yourself and your limits, works your mental and physical fitness and compared to taking fencing lessons is free. I could go on and spiel about how great parkour is but I have already put in my two cents, so good luck to you in your future training (be it parkour or fencing).

  2. There is a lot to be said for the free form expressiveness of parkour. With "no set of rules, team work, formal hierarchy, or competitiveness," (Wikipedia entry) you can practice it anywhere and in any manner you like.

On the other hand, you might be looking for a sport that has more structure. Sport fencing requires discipline, enforces rules of conduct and rewards competitiveness balanced between attack and defense. Fencing has long been characterized as "physical chess." You must use all the mental stratagems of chess -- opening moves, probe, feint, etc. -- combined in a strenuous physical workout.

As far as the expense is concerned, parkour is free; though you might want a pair of padded open-fingered gloves if you're going over fences and the like. There are club dues and perhaps lessons fees required if you get into fencing. Many clubs provide all the equipment. When you get further into the sport you'll want your own equipment, which starts at about $150 for a practice set, on up.

  3. parkour would be way more interesting. you can do it anywhere and you don't need anything but fencing... u need the appropriate attire and a sword. i'd go parkour.

  4. parkour it will be hard and dengerous but lot of fun
