she wants to go to the park and have a picnic....

and she said she wants fried chicken...

well she invited her friend from out of state to come visit us for a week. and she is a vegitarian.

what should i buy or what is easy to make that could be a main meal for a vegitarian!?!? once while at a conference lunch with her and my mom she flipped out that the company didn't have any vegitarian meals besides salad and steam broccoli soup!

i feel that i shouldn't have to go out of my way to prepare a special dish for her...

i mean it is my MOM's birthday.... but this woman is one of her closest friends.

and i dont have a lot of time to make something b/c we are really busy with kitchen remodeling and our house is quite chaotic!

what should i do?

  1. When I travel or visit anyone, I take responsibility for my own meals and snacks.

If you really want to make her something, why don't you ask her?

Ya know, pasta without meat is vegetarian. In fact, anything without meat is usually vegetarian.

Here is a small list of vegetarian foods.

  2. well becuase it is a friend of moms yes you should go out of way to please her otherwise she will not eat and mom will feel uncomfortable

make a veggie platter with blue cheese or ranch dip

    good luck

  3. Tell them that you will bring the chicken but they will have to bring something that her friend can eat.

  4. Path of least resistance.  Get the fried chicken for mom.  Get a pasta salad from the deli at the grocery.

If she flips out, she looks like an idiot.  Which, I suspect, everyone already knows she is.  You can't pick your mom's friends, but you can, on your mom's day, suffer them lightly.

Most veggies do not want you to go out of your way to make a whole other meal especially for them.  It makes them feel self conscious and they know it is troublesome and you may resent it.  In the future, for normal veggies, just make your meat dish (when your kitchen is back up and working), and make plenty of good sides to go with them.  They will load up on the sides.  If they are staying longer term at your house, you can make a full veggie meal for everyone... no meat.

Hey also, you could ask the cranky veggie to bring a dish for the picnic.  That way she gets what she wants.

  5. just take like 3-4 peanutbutter sandwiches for her and then make sure you bring a video camera, i want to see a vegitarian flip out.

  6. well it would only be fair you provided something for her to eat as well out of consideration just imagine if you were in her shoes you would really appreciate it if someone was thoughful enough just dont bring a salad because just because someones vegetarian doesnt mean they want a salad 24/7

  7. veggie burgers?

  8. Side Dishes are the key.  You can get any kind of potato or pasta salad so long as there is no ham or bacon in it. Steamed or fried rice, grilled vegetables, bean dip.  You can cook a few veggie hot dogs at home and take them with you too.

  9. I would fix whatever you intended to in the beginning.  She can eat salad.
