  1. as long as it isn't storming I would let him out.

  2. As long as its not a serious storm, rain will not hurt them. But I would only put my horses out if they have a run-in out in the field. So if the storm does turn nasty, they can have a shelter to go to.

  3. You're really smart to find out all you can about horses, before you get one. They certainly are a large responsibility and one well worth the hard work, because they're hours of pleasure.  It's really nice to have a barn for them with a nice size lot with a run for them.  This allows them freedom to run during the day, plus they know to get out of thunderstorms/w lightening.  Then, you put them in their stalls, after you brush them down at night, before you feed.  Like I said, it's a tremendous responsibility.  One that's required to do everyday over and over.  Are you sure you want a horse when you really think of all this work ahead of you?  Of course, they're really worth it.  Just want you to know you'll never be sorry you choose to take this responsibility on.......

PS. Wow!  That's a lot of rain where you live. Perhaps, it will let up soon.  Many of us are praying for rain in our parts of the country.

Good Luck and blessings to you<><):

  4. if it's not raining to hard. Horse enjoy a little rain every once and a while

  5. Rain won't hurt the horse, but they have to be brought in if there is a lightning storm expected. Horses are the tallest things in the field and get struck by lightning regularly.

  6. Honestly, our horses are out in the weather all the time so it doesn't really matter. If you want your horse to stay clean then its probably a good idea not to have him out in the rain, or at least to rug him. It's also a good thing to have a shelter accessible to the horse. And sorry about the bad weather!!!

  7. I put my horse out in a drizzle or a passing shower but if it is constant hard rain leave em in unless he has a run in.

hope this helps....please best answer this!

  8. A horse will be fine in the rain. If you're worried about him/her getting too wet or getting cold just get a waterproof rug.

Horses love just being able to hang out in a paddock. Even if it's raining, they can still eat and run around with each other, so they'll still enjoy it.

Also, if the rain gets really heavy or the horse decides it doesn't want to stay in the rain, make sure there is a shelter or trees in the paddock that it can stay under if necessary.

  9. Where do you live?! Rain for 7 days straight is a KILLER on the sewer system.

But back to horses, horses are rugged animals. They don't care if it's raining. I would suggest getting a shelter for them to stand under if they want to get out of the rain. We leave them out if it's raining, but if we suspect thunder or lightning (or hear or see thunder or lightning), we bring them in right away.

I'm very fortunate in the way that my gelding is the 'herd leader' of our herd, and he trusts me completely, he'd let me do anything with  him, so even though he is terrified of loud noises, he's okay when I lead him in... if I asked my mom or dad to go in there to get him, no way man, he'd be freaking out. Anyways, the rest of the herd usually wants to go in when he does (at least the mares do), and then the other boys just want to be with the girls, so it's relatively easy to bring them in after that.

But, if you don't know your horse that well, be very careful if you're going to get them if it's thunder or lightning, horses hate loud noises, it frightens them!!

  10. As long as it isn't lightning there should be no problem. Where I live rain rot is a big problem so make sure you get that off as soon as possible if your horse gets it. (you can tell because they feel like little scabby bited o.O) but no rain wont hurt 'em xD

  11. Let them out if it is a drizzle...or a lill rain.

but if it is storming...keep them in.

  12. Horses do fine in the rain. My horses live in an open pasture with a shelter they can go in if they want to. In huge rain storms they actually stay outside much of the time. Think about it. Horses in the wild don't live in barns! I live in New Mexico, United States which has a similar environment to some parts of Australia.

    Cheers,

  13. Wow, rain for 7 days straight - are you in the UK ?

    That's about what we've had.

It's not been cold and they have shelter in the field so yes, they are out. If it was cold I would rug them and let them out. they are happier in the field than they would be in the stable. You just have to check for mud rash etc if it's wet for a while.

Edit> just about anytime I worry about mine being in the rain I'll go check on them and they ignore the shelter and stand in the middle of the field eating ! and not even want to come in - I take that a sign that they really aren't bothered by it especially as they are all wussies who stand by the gate begging to come in if it's cold !

  14. As long as the horse is wearing a rug and knows the paddock there isn't a problem are horses live outside all year round. the horse must have some sort of shelter weather it is natural or man made,

  15. If I didn't put my horses out in the rain, they'd never get out! Our glorious Irish summer is all rain...

Horses are designed to live out, and the huge majority would be unhappy if made to stay in on the count of the weather. If a horse is particularly thin skinned and wimpy I'd put a light rug on, otherwise I just let them get on with it.

  16. If it is lightening I would not put the horse outside.

  17. I say YES! my horses love the rain, but you have to make sure it is just rain on a warm day, no lightning, high wind or cool temps.

  18. I have no problem turning out in the rain as long as its not lightning. Some horses seem to really enjoy it so i like to turn them out occasionally in the rain. Unfortunately I live in the southern US so we rarely get rain that isn't accompanied by a thunderstorm. I also don't turn out in the rain if its going to get cold before they can dry off. for instance if i know its going to be cool enough to blanket at night I'll keep them in just because its such a nightmare getting them dried off in time to put blankies on. especially with winter coats.

  19. Yeah, horses won't melt.  Make sure shelter is available if the horse wants it but rain won't hurt it.  Lightening on the other hand...I know 3 horses that have been struck and killed by lightening.  Bad deal.
