Should I use el or la when I'm talking about the Nintendo DS?

e.g. How would you translate:

The Nintendo DS is on the top of the fridge because dad wanted to hide it from me.

  1. El Nintendo DS está sobre la refrigeradora porque papá quería esconderlo de mi.

  2. El would be more appropriate...a couple of reasons -- 'game' in spanish is 'el juego' (therefore it's masculine form)...as well, you can perhaps look at it in that Nintendo ends in 'o' (so consider it masculine...not the real reason though).

  3. I would use "el" because a Nintendo DS is a video-game apparatus (in Spanish, the word for video-game is "el videojuego").

Usually, when using proper nouns of foreign words, your best bet is to use "el". Simply because "el" is also somewhat gender-neutral, and the word "Nintendo DS" has yet to be entered into the dictionary of the Real Academia Española.

    I would translate it as:

El videojuego Nintendo DS está encima del frigorífico porque mi padre quería esconderlo fuera de mi vista.

This keeps the original idea- it basically says "The Nintendo DS game (system) is on top of the fridge because my father wanted to hide it out of (my) sight."

I would put "el videojuego" in as a clarifier, but it's not necessary.

  4. I'm going against everyone else above on this one...

The Nintendo DS is a CONSOLE (consola, feminine), thus it would require "la"

This convention is even maintained in the Wikipedia article on Nintendo DS:

    http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo_DS

You can see the second paragraph starts with "La Nintendo DS"

That's my view on it.  Overall though, it seems to depend on what you consider a Nintendo DS (videojuego, juego, consola, etc.)  In those cases "Nintendo DS" would be used like an adjective to describe what kind of "(video)juego" or "consola" it is.

  5. in spanish things are like

    male and female

    ...

the nintendo ds is on the top of the fridge because dad wanted to hide it from me...

EL nintendo ds esta arriba del refrigerador porque mi papá lo queria esconder de mi...

    so u use EL...

  6. El Nintendo DS está sobre el refrigerador porque mi papá quería esconderlo de mí.

  7. Many reasons to use El

because the word Nintendo ends in O

because "videojuego" is also a masculin word

because "sistema" and "aparato", two words that can describe the Nintendo system, are masculine too.
