I'm 9months pregnant and 5 days away a scheduled induction but my dr. stripped my membranes twice this week And i'm miserable and still not progressing. He said that i have an unfavorable cervix and it will possibly end up as a c-section anyways if don't progress after induction but he would like for me to go in on my own and i need to do whatever possible to do that or to speed up the progress. Please help me!

  1. The theory behind this induction method is that the castor oil causes diarrhea and the diarrheal cramps cause sympathetic cramping in your uterus, another smooth muscle. This is another of the methods that "won't work if you're not already ready anyway", as the sympathetic cramping will be ineffectual if all conditions are not already optimal for labor. In my case, my contractions began 10 minutes after my first dose of oil, hours before the diarrhea began. Therefore, it could not have been the castor oil that brought on labor in my case, and I caused myself all that trouble for nothing.

There has been much debate over whether taking castor oil to induce labor will cause the baby to have its first bowel movement in the womb before birth. This pre-birth bowel movement, called meconium, can be dangerous, because if baby inhales some of it it can cause pneumonia in the lungs. Meconium is also a widely-held signal that the baby is in some sort of distress. Most professionals with any experience with castor oil inductions agree that this is untrue. They have found that there is no increased occurrence of meconium in castor oil induced labors over spontaneous labors.

The real danger lies in the mother when using castor oil for labor induction. With the severity of the diarrhea, a laboring woman can quickly become dehydrated. Especially in a typically highly managed hospital birth where a woman is allowed few fluids. Dehydration makes one tired and less able to endure through physical activity. Plus, not only does this endanger breastfeeding (proper hydration is necessary to make adequate milk), but a dehydrated uterus is an aggravated uterus, and an aggravated uterus causes more pain for the mother. More pain makes a woman less able to handle natural child birth and puts her and the baby at increased risk for a snowball of interventions.

  2. There's a chance that if you use castor oil in a glass of orange juice that it will harm the baby(not sure how, but that doesn't sound like a good idea). I'd just try and deal with it until the baby is due. Or you could always try s*x.

  3. NO you shouldn't do it leave it to your mid wife

  4. No dont put your child at risk

  5. NO!my mom made my sister drink it and she sat on the toilet for like 2 hours that night.not pretty.AND it didnt even work.

  6. I don't know if it's the right thing to do medically, but  I know a girl who was over due, and her Mom gave her castor oil. She went into labor that day! But then again she WAS overdue...

  7. all you should do is just walk and walk and have intercourse and then baby will come

  8. no have s*x

  9. i don't think its a good idea to force a baby out with castor oil.

plus i think that only makes you p**p right?

  10. Castor oil will give you the runs. It's used as a laxative, or was before all the commercial products came out on the market. Sorry I can't be more helpful. I just thought that you didn't want to be running to the toilet on top of everything else.

  11. I would not even consider doing that, unless you want to risk doing something wrong.  At best, castor oil should help your constipation, but that's it. Be patient. You will have your baby soon. I can't understand the purpose of stripping membranes. If he really wants you to go into labor, why not break your water? That sometimes help. Good luck and congrats!

  12. No,I think everyone is just a bit more satisfied when the tough it out and go till the end.I was pregnant for almost 43 weeks and had a 3 day labor,I was so satisfied with my self for going through most of the process naturally. It ended up being a c-section because my cervix was too swollen from the nonstop contractions it would not dilate past 9 cm.But now I have one h**l of a story to tell.

  13. NO its not healthy. People did it in earlier generations but my OBGYN warned me again and again not to do it. She retired last year so she has seen many births. Trying walking, drinking raspberry tea, spicy food or a foot rub. Please don't do the castor oil.

  14. From personal experience there is nothing you can do to start labor early. We tried everything with our second child and nothing worked it just made our lives extremely stressful and the last week of my pregnancy awful. The baby will come when it is ready. Relax and enjoy the time you have left. I know it's hard but the baby will be here before you now it.

  15. Castor oil doesn't work and it would give you the runs. And it would pass to the baby and the baby can have a bowel movement in there and not good for the baby to do. Try to do walk do a lot of walking. s*x and a lot of it. The sperm would help has well. And try some spicy food that worked for me.

  16. If he says your going to end up having a c-section more then licky I'm wondering why he just not going to schedule one for you.  Instead of putting you thru more pain.

  17. I think castor oil just makes you puke. No reason to make it more painful than it is already :)

  18. I don't want to say yes or no becuase I have read of 2 things happening. One: It could help induce labour but it tastes discusting. Two: I have read that it just gives some people extremely bad cramps and crazy diarrea! Plus it tastes discusting. So it's really up to you. Do you want to risk major diarrea to save yourself a couple days of waiting? You never know, you could naturally go into labour tonight. I would say have s*x (if possible), always worked for me :)
