  1. It's up to you ... whichever sounds better to you.  Many people have traditionally felt DTS was superior, but while that might have been true until several years ago, in recent years DTS has been used at a lower bitrate, so superiority over DD is more questionable. As I said, it's really personal preference.

  2. It depends on the media you are playing. Not all movies have the DTS sound.

  3. Assuming you are asking about what to choose when playing a DVD movie? My vote is on DTS.

I did a lengthy search on the same subject on the internet recently. Unfortunately, all the articles compared the "technical" difference of the the two. Some say the perceived difference is just that DTS recording are in general "Louder". For end users like you and me, it's not of much use.

At home I have an entry level home theatre system. I bought a sound meter and calibrated the speakers as best as I can (sound level, distance, etc).  I tried a few DVD with both DD and DTS sound tracks. I think the sorround sound effect is in general better for the DTS track - better 3-D, better definition of sound location, even during the time with a lot of loud background.

Another hint about which is better: only a minority of DVD movies use DTS. Other have DD only. With the additional space, the production company will put on additional special features, deleted scenes etc. Knowing that there is additional work to make a DTS track, why do you think the few DVD movies would give up the special features and deleted scenes in order to put the DTS there? I can only think of one reason: DTS is better.

  4. DTS
