  1. it all depends on you.  nails seem to not be good in many situations, because if they're going into drywall but not basewood they don't grip.

    if this mirror of yours is heavy, i suggest screws.  

    if you're staying in this house for a minor number of years, it may cost more to putty it, so nails.

  3. For a small mirror use nails they will leave less of a hole in the wall and should suport it just fine.

  5. Depends on size and weight. The larger and heavier, the better to use anchors and screws. If only a little thing made of plastic, a nail will do just fine. If in doubt, go conservative and use screws and anchors. An anchor is a plastic thing which you put into a drilled hole of a specific size and when you turn in the s***w, the s***w forces the plastic pieces apart to grip the sides of the hole, which is why they can support so much weight compared to a simple nail.
