  1. You're going to need to wait until you get out of school to go and get a puppy. I just got a labrador during this summer from the shelter about 7 years old after it was found in the neighborhood next to us. We felt as if we were doing a good thing. It had been about 50 lb. underweight and they were going to put it down.

Turns out the dog was a complete mess. Sure, he was very sweet and he was a pretty good dog with everyone else. But he was strong enough to hurt us, he made many messes because he didn't know where to go, and when rainstorms came, he ripped apart the screens on our windows.

So we got rid of him.

But when we got a pug puppy, it had been too late. I was gone all the time, along with my dad, and my mom is a handicap and couldn't help in potty training her. My sister got tired of doing most of the work.

So that showed me that its better to get a puppy when you have all that free time rather than trying to retrain a big dog that could much longer to learn everything all over again, especially if its stubborn and doesn't want to change its ways!

Best of luck to you in whatever you choose. You can even wait until winter break for the puppy if you have your family helping out. That's a good two weeks for the puppy to get the learning down!

  2. Dogs that come from shelters aren't necessarily trained.

  3. get one from a shelter when you have enough time to take are of it. There are so many homeless pets and shelters have puppies too.

  4. I would get a puppy and train it....

Puppy's are socute but they are a bit of a handful so be paitiante when your training your puppy

(it dependes on what the breed is to how good it is when it's being trained)

  5. If you're undecided then you're probably not ready.  Wait. I have 3 dogs that I love to death but they're hard work.

  6. wait until you are out of school so that you have enough time over the summer to train it.  when i got my first puppy, i needed to spend a lot of time with him to be able to teach him enough.  thats what happened this summer that already passed and now he is a little smartie cookie.  i love my dog to death, so waiting is definately worth it! and its great that you are going to the shelter to get it.

ps. cool. were in the same grade. lol.

  7. i would say to get a puppy and train it... its always fun and a lot of work! and, ur parents will think that you are SUPER responsible if you spend ur summer with it
