  1. It's not a "WASTE" at all, unless you don't care to get the jobs. "PRO" Head shots are a standard in theater, and approx. 8 x 10, B&W, similar but not exactly like "Glamor Shots"

If a head shot is called for, those are the acceptable type, not shots at some mall. You can go to a hundred agencies, and the first one you find, that says it doesn't matter, is the one you should run, not walk away from.

    Just my 2 "scents"

Added thought: While I disagree in part, with answer #1, I am not at all a fan of agencies or "AGENTS" They equate to used car salesmen to me, No offense meant to that group.

I have no dealings with angents, or agencies simply because they are in business to profit from YOU, or me, or others. That said however, any DECENT agency should front the cash for head shots or have an on staff Photographer.

  2. Any place that wants you to spend money is a scam.  If they truly thought you were what they were looking for they would treat you like a goddess.  Afterall, the money they could earn from you would be far beyond the cost of a pro photo shoot.  Tyra told me.   :)

  3. You should get professional headshots, yes. Mall pictures are usually horrible. It's not a waste of money, because your headshot is going to be your most important "business card".

But any agency who tells you to go to a specific photographer is a SCAM! They get kickbacks for referrals, and it's very unethical.

You should be free to choose your own photographer, something that fits your budget.

    Good luck!

  4. You don't have to get professional shots if you can get some that LOOK like they're professional! Do you have a friend that's good with a camera? :)

I would look around websites at different people's headshots to see what they look like. Something at the mall (if it's what I'm thinking) probably won't look like this.

Also, do a Google search for "headshot tips" you'll find some really great tips!
