I bought my new car in February, where i live we have a private car park that is run by an independent parking authority, You have to apply for a permit before you can park there. To apply for this you need to have mot, full v5 document, and insurance docs. This obviously takes a week or two to get. In this time i still parked in the car park but put a sign on the windscreen saying that i was in progress of applying for permit.

The parking agency still gave me tickets about 4 in total. They haven't come back to me now, its been 6 months.

have they got a time limit. can they still come back to me and claim the money.

  1. These cameras are used only if a crime or a serious accident has been committed. They are not used for parking offences.

  2. Technically you weren't parking illegally, you were just waiting on the necessary paperwork.  I'd make a point of contacting the parking company and seeing what they have to say.

But in case the fines do come back to bite you in the ***, I would make sure that I had copies of all applications for your paperwork for the car including dates applied for, date of purchase of the car etc, so that if the parking company do send the heavies round looking for the money you'll be able to take your case to a small claims court and try to get your money back.

  3. There no time limit on when private companies like these should issue a permit, and as your car doesn't have the permit, it means you're in breach of the parking regulations for those premises, thus you are legible for paying any parking fines that arise from parking there without a permit. I feel for you. Best bet is to get in touch with the company ASAP and discuss whats happened/happening.
