  1. maybee if their level of english isn't up to the level required...i think they should test their oral and written english and then take the action necessary, whether it be resource classes or segregation...its a tough one thoug cos they're missing out on something either way, socially or from the educational point of view...


  2. No I don't agree that children with poor english should be segregated in secondary school as this is a move akin of apatite however there is a legitimate call for children who cannot understand lessons been given extra ESL support in separate classes.

    It is cruel to expect a child who does not understand english well to sit through a science, history or english lesson because:

    1.  It does nothing for integration

    2.  The child does not learn anything

    I fear with all the cut backs in education in the south the money will not be put forward to do this but surely it would be cheaper to provide a few additional EFL teachers for children rather than build segregated schools.

    All children should be allowed learn at their own level and socialise together.  We have segregated education in the North and it doesn't work on any level.

    Finally on the most part I think most parents (especially our eastern European friends) do not bring their children over to this country unless they have some level of english.  This problem is often centered in our cities but it can hardly be said to be out of control or an endemic problem in our schools.

  5. NO! Omg they spent years in south africa and america trying to rid themselves of segregation and someone wants to bring it back in?? Yes, Children who have difficulty with english(or any other subject for that matter), be they immigrants or children with special needs should perhaps be given special classes or be taken to a seperate room for that subject.  

  6. No. Children learn by example so if teachers segregate the kids the kids will think that they shouldn't associate with them and we'll breed a generation of racists.

  7. Another stupid idea. Whatever next. If their catholicism is not a high enough standard they should be put into a intense catholic learning school?. What about their mathematics...?..Anyone who is not Irish is the thinking behind this.

  8. YES,They are mostly Asylum seekers children or Refugees not Immigrants,

    Immigrants are people who have arranged with the Govt to come to this country by mutual consent.

  9. No, kids should be fully integrated, with extra help after normal classes. Don't forget that school is not just learning math, it's also about social skills. And what are you teaching them in that regard if you separate them from the rest of the class? That they are inferior? Or that they are more stupid or somewhat inferior? I don't think so. In for full integration.

    How can they be expected to learn English this way?

    Also, they came to this country for a better life and yet they are treated unfairly everywhere they go.
