Absolutely, if you move to the U.S. you should at least be able to get by in English. A majority of people in this country speak English, so learn English.

The short answer to your question is "Yes".  About 6 months ago I was in Las Angeles and went into a SubWay sandwich shop.  I went up to the counter to order a sandwich and was unable to order because no one in the shop spoke English.  This should not happen in America!!!

Absolutly! We as a nation demand a common thread to assertain the seekers moral motivation. Now more than ever is our soverein status being subjected to those of dubious morality. We must not allow those 'in' without a stated moral surrender to what this country is founded upon. To state it in a forien language , is nothing less than assault upon americans. Forienghers take every opportunity to dismiss us as inconsequential in thier empty pride to be supperior to this nation-and these people.On what level did we begin to infer such a debacle of belief? One word-Busch!

I think they should be able to do more than just barely speak it. not speak it fluently but be able to speak it sort of well. There is nothing worse than calling a business or going into a business and having to wait for 30 minutes for them to figure out what you are talking about. I called a business a few weeks ago and got someone who I couldn't understand and couldn't  understand a simple concept of "my bill is messed up".. an hour later. I gave up. I had a MD licensed who was treating patients and the patients couldn't understand her. her nurse had to interpret. how scary is that. Do you think if I went to another country that they would appreciate the fact that I couldn't talk to them. They would get mad if I worked at McD and couldn't even understand what "hold the mayo" means. so, yes. I am not racist but I have a problem with people who say "we want a better life" but you Americans are supposed to learn our language

Are you serious?  Of course not, we should be required to learn their language before they begin working for us.  This way we Americans can begin to serve pennance for all of the horrible deeds the US has done to other countries such as England, France, Latvia, Poland etc...

Immigrants .. always... must know and be able to use English to come to this country.  They are not allowed to come in for many good reasons and that law use to be enforced.  Not now in some cases, and it needs to be re instated as a law we will enforce.

WELL i say they should because their coming here for a reason and english is a must probably for eveyone so yah and it would be a lot easier to understand. I myself know because my whole family are is mexican only not immigrants.
