Karthik is a better wicket-keeper than Parthiv but from what I saw in the IPL tournament was that Parthiv is not a bad batsman either. If they are selected for their primary role as wicket-keeper than Karthik has a better chance of being selected for the second test. There is another equation that if you have not seen Mendis before, you will have a problem dealing with him. That also goes in Karthik's favor.

Actually i think both Karthik and Patel play well. But when it comes to making way for one another then Karthik is the better of the two. His keeping is excellent. He can take some brilliant catches and also play well. Remember the tour match where he scored 55odd runs to help India from being humiliated in the 1st innings. So i think Karthik is a better option.
