In 19 Century Spain Lost it's Empire.Turkey , lost it WW 1st , like Austria & Germany. After WW 2nd till the '80s desapeared most of colonies of the Portuguese , French and Japanese Empires(This one with the Italian during WW 2nd) , Dutch & Belgian. The '90s originated the fall of another World Empire:The Soviet Union. With the fall of this empire Comunist Countries of the wholr World were freed from this European Empire. Moreover the 15 republics that composed the Soviet Union , including Russia separated from it.Serbia that from it's capital , Belgrad , lead the artificial & unhistorical country which was Yugoslavia. In fact it had a mini empire which the Montenegrin desapeared as an such.

Soviet & Yugoslav Empires fell '90s , but also in this decade were returned the Channel to Panama , Hong-Kong & Macao to China.

There are still countries like French Guiana , Chechnya , American Samoa , West Sahara , Tibet , Falkland and Cook Islands ,Greenland & others that should de descolonized.

  1. Also my homeland, Alsace still under the rule of the colonial French state.

  2. The countries that they are associated with have changed their world so much, that they rely on them. If American Samoa were to leave the United States, other countries would pose as a threat to them since they don't have any army that is suited enough to defend their selves. They'll also lose their education and money since most of the educated students leave for the United States for a better job and most of the people in Samoa are employed by another countries company.

Leaving the U.S. wasn't a good idea for the Philippines. Poverty and Corruption has taken over. It wouldn't be a good idea for any other small territory. I would suggest that they make an agreement in which, under certain conditions, they would stay with the country as a territory, or even become a state. This would allow the territory to be more connected to the world and also have more money pumped into their economy.

  3. Let them decide if they want to leave or not. There are some outstanding cases where they want to leave while there are also some cases where they would rather stay.

    For the territories you identified:

    * French Guiana - as far as I know they aren't interested in leaving France. Keep it as is I would hope.

    * Chechnya - if Russia allowed them to leave then no doubt they would. Unfortunately there is oil, natural gas and a great deal of related infrastructure there. We all know oil makes the world go round so that won't change.

    * American Samoa - interesting how the inhabitants aren't allowed US citizenship. Plebiscite and let them choose.

    * West Sahara - already independent as the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic although not recognised by many.

    * Tibet - you don't need me to tell you about that place the media does a good job of it. Should be independent; I am only hoping the Dalai Lama does NOT become the leader once it is independent coz if you have done your history research you will find Tibet was oppressive as a Buddhist theocracy (who would have thought it!).

    * Falkland Islands - considering they are all ethnic Scots I sincerely doubt they will declare independence or want it for that matter (considering the steam rising from neighbouring Argentina).

    * Cook Islands - If only the UN would get off New Zealand's back over this; they allowed them to vote and they voted to STAY in NZ but of course the UN still wants them on the decolonisation list. Pfft.

    * Greenland - they will get there in time. They can vote whenever they want with their autonomy status if they want to leave or stay in union with Denmark.

  4. British out of the falkland islands! Las islas malvinas son ARGENTINAS!

  5. I think, (in the perfect world..) if a Territory or Country wants to be freed from another Country that once colonized them, they should have the right to gain freedom.  However, they should have to have a plan for their government, economy, etc. because if most of these areas became independent they would most likely be poverty stricken and then have to depend on international aide.

I.e. Tibet wants to be an independent Country, so they should be allowed to be freed from China.

I'm half Samoan from the U.S. and my father comes from the Territory of American Samoa and I can say one thing, American Samoans do not want to be an independent country nor do they wish to become a State.  They are perfectly content with their current status.  They are able to freely travel throughout the U.S., they can join the Military, they have access to the good Education in the States, and can use their currency. However they control their own land, they have their own enacting constitution, and a white American cannot just go and purchase land, you have to be part Samoan.  So, over all they have the best of two worlds and are very content unlike Tibet.

Also, the Cook Islands are a self-governing Island and in free association with New Zealand and only depend on them for military defense as needed, so I doubt they want to be unassociated with NZ.
