A friend of mine and i were talking nascar and he said that Jr needs to be more aggressive in his driving. He pointed out that Jr can be running up in the top three and he just lets people pass him - he feels Jr is too laid back sometimes and too easygoing (does'nt really want to be the bad guy). He did think Jr is a skilled driver as he is doing well this year - 3rd in points. I think he is just driving smarter and even though he wants to win - it is best if he at least finishes in top ten as much as he can to guarantee a chase spot. Once he clinches a chase spot, he can go for broke. What does everyone else think?

  1. I think so. Im a Jr fan and I think sometimes it seems like he doesnt try very hard.

  2. So you want him to be a second Instigator like his dad, and instigate wrecks and cautions by "rattling someone's cage"? I think NASCAR is too plain-vanilla these days to allow that typof "bump and run" driving.

  3. Sometimes I wish he were, but he (like everyone else is looking for the best possible finish right now...yes EVEN Kyle).

The ultimate goal of ALL drivers out there at this point is to accumulate points (like it or not) and get into the Chase.  Not even Kyle, although he drives wild sometimes, is going to risk wading his car up unnecessarily and lose the points.  If he didn't think he could keep his car under control when he's sliding around, he wouldn't do it.

Start driving too aggresive too early, and your spot in the Chase may just slip away...but when we get to the Chase, then yeah it's time to let it all hang out...imo.

  4. Jr. is Jr.  If he were more aggressive, he wouldn't be the Jr. we all love.  Sometimes I wish he was, but usually, he lets cars pass when he know they have a faster car or when he's just exercising patience.

    Go Jr.>>>>

  5. There are times when I wish he would be more emotional, like when he gets wrecked or something goes wrong with the car or whatever.  I don't know if I want him to be more aggressive on the track. He's driving smart, and he's aggressive when the situation calls for it.  The wreck at Richmond proves it. I'm not a KB fan, but the Richmond deal isn't the reason. I think neither Jr. nor KB gave an inch, and even though Jr. came out at the losing end of that deal, it proved to me that he can and will race hard for the win.

  6. yes

  7. I like how Jr is laid back and a smart driver but there are definitely times I wish he's be more aggressive and show a little more emotion out on the track (you know show em' who's boss LOL ) but overall I think Jr does just great!!

  8. If he was more aggressive then NASCAR would just try to tone him back down by giving him a bunch of "detrimental violations" for reasons only NASCAR knows themselves. They don't want him to be successful because he has (like his dad) too much control over the fan base. NASCAR would rather have all that money themselves and have their own "superstar" they can rake in the  $ with.

Added: Several years back Jeff Gordon himself said that if Jr was to win the championship then the rest of the drivers would be nonexistent. See with his popularity and being the championship driver would mean exactly what Jeff said. Ever since then NASCAR has thrown penalty after penalty at Jr trying to keep him from being as aggressive  and successful.

  9. That's what everyone but Kyle Busch are doing with this new car.

  10. i think hes doing good right now he could be a little more aggressive but not too aggressive like at Richmond i woulda drove up to his car post race an had a little talk with him or just let it ride till the next short track and spin him out on lap 88

  11. One the reasons I like jr is the same reason I followed Bill Elliott for years. He isn't too aggressive and in fact is very humble and quiet and has the respect and trust of many other drivers out there. Many look for him to draft with and race with and give and take all race long and know they will be raced clean. The same can not be said for others.

I would rather he do what he does and come in second than do like some others and win. His wins will come soon enough and when they do, like they have been in the past you won't see any fights in the pits afterwards...
