Question:

Should kids be bribed?

In a news article today, it said that a school in Washington is rewarding sixth graders with fake money that can be redeemed for prizes. The fake money is given for those who behaved well or did their homework for the week. Do children really need to be bribed to do what they are SUPPOSED to do in school? When I was in the sixth grade, my motivation to do well was my own sense of achievement (seriously) and my parents. I didn't need incentive gifts to do what I was supposed to do. What do you all think? Should children be given prizes for being well behaved and doing their homework?

  1. No is the answer. My sons school gives points out that are then able to buy lollies. I was never given this, we just had to do it as that was what we were there for. It teaches children that they have to be rewarded for what they are supposed to do. I think that the teachers who uses these techniques are wrong and one would look at their ability to motivate and make the learning environment inter resting so they pay attention. We are not empowering the children to motivate themselves to do their best for themselves

  2. So, what if this makes children do well in school? Gives them somethings to grasp at now. The child actually comes home and is excited to learn so he or she can get a prize. I don't find anything wrong with this at all. I even remember parents when I was growing up saying for every A you get you can have 20.00 and B's worth 10.00 and so on. In this it is a win win situation. The kids get good grades. Parents Happy, School Happy and the kids are proud of their work and get a little something extra. This also helps parents who cannot afford to give the child money for doing well. The child can come home and say look mom and dad I got a A and look what I won!

    Great Idea!

  3. It's the wrong ethic and will only make them greedier as any person who has been blackmailed will tell you...

  4. unfortunatly, between TV and Video Games and all the Violence and the thoughts in there minds about learning about global warming and stuff kids feel like they have no future, and the problems they will face later, like our plan to make more nuclear waste to solve the carbon emmision problems, are overwelming for children, i don't have an answer, i don't know what to do. i wish people left all of Gods laws (or what is called science today) alone and we wouldn't have these problems
