  1. NO. My kids work hard in school all week long and I think they need time to be with family and just hang around being kids on weekends.

  2. It depends on the age of the kids.  For kids up to about sixth grade, I would say "no" for most weekends, but not necessarily all weekends since there might be special projects sometimes.

For older students from seventh to ninth grade, there could be homework some weekends.

For high school students there has to be homework for them to complete the work, so for them "yes" there would be homework on most weekends.

  3. Depends on the kid, the subject, the teacher, etc.

  4. No :)

  5. This is homeschooling (y'know for those of us who are taught/teach at home; everything we do is 'homework'. lol!)

(Conventional) Schooling is another three floors down. Go out the door, turn right and you'll see the staircase at the end of the hallway on your left. Or, if you run, you might just catch the lift.

  6. Depends on the age.

My 9 year old has goals for the week. If, for some reason, she is running short on time, and does not finish her work, she does it on the weekends.

My kids are 6 & 9. During the weekend, 9 yo practices spelling, and math facts.

My 6 yo does phonics work and math.

Doing this helps with the next week.

Once you hit a certain age, you are going to have homework... Once my 9 y.o. is around 5th or 6th grade, I will probably have her do weekend projects or book reports...

  7. well then don't go into sales or high management or college

work after work and weekends is requires

after a tv actor does a 12 hour day they go home and memorize their sides for  the next days shooting

  8. no they shouldnt

  9. Just wait until you get into college. you'll have  whole projects and presentations to do over holiday breaks and week ends ALONG with regular homework for five different classes. not to mention it's all group projects so you have to meet with your group AND then do the work!!!!!!

  10. "No", everyone needs down time.

If people want to read, or study on their own because they enjoy it, then go for it.

Otherwise living life, "socializing", and enjoying your hobbies can be a much better learning experience than busy book work.

  11. I think everyone needs a break. If during the week they slacked off and joked around the whole time and didn't do any work then yeah they should have homework on the weekends.

If you do the school work and actually pay attention then you shouldn't have any homework.

  12. If everything isn't completed during the week then Yes homework needs to be given to complete the assignments.

  13. We ALL hated homework, but that is an absolute irrelevance. At the upper grade-levels, count on it! There is NO WAY that one can accomplish on school-time all of one's assignments or study ebough for everything. A little on the weekends isn't going to kill anyone. When (Or if) you get to college, you can count on it, at the rate of about 1 hour a day for every credit you are taking, so you may as well get in the groove NOW!

  14. Yes

  15. Yes, if they can't get it done during the week, then they should do it that weekend.

  16. If they are in school, yes, but a reasonable amount for their age. I remember being so loaded down at times in high school because teachers would think, "Oh, they've got all weekend," which might have worked out okay if just one teacher did it, but sometimes it was 2--or all 4. That sucked. And was just unnecessary. Especially at the end of the year when they realized we were behind and seemed to double how much they gave us to do on weekends.

  17. No, because the whole point of a weekend is a break. Everyone deserves a break after a week a school .That is what the weekends for. I have bo problem during the week with homework. You can give me as much homework as you want during the week, but please give me the weekends off.

  18. Yes and No!  I think that if a kid wants to do work during the weekend then they should have that choice.  If a kid does not want to do any school work on the weekends then they should have that choice, too.

I usually do a lot of "school work" during the week, Monday - Friday, so I don't force myself to do any school work if I don't feel like doing it on a Sat. or Sunday.

  19. NO!

we go to school 5 days a week and do nothing but work and get homework everyday of the weekday so why on the weekends we would prolly like school more if we wern't so piled all the time espicially weekends!

  20. no....that's free time

  21. Absolutely.  When they grow up, they'll have to work on weekends too (either for their job, or working around the house cleaning, mowing grass, etc)

  22. No, unless they have unfinished homework that isn't finished because they procrastinated.  If it's not finished just because they were having trouble they shouldn't los their free time.

  23. In homeschooling, I guess it would all be home work...and most homeschoolers have the philosophy that we learn all the time.

  24. Home work is evil!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!......

  25. In homeschool?????

  26. Depends on the particular sutuation at that particular time. If he/she is free on that day, might as well give some homework to keep them occupied; If he/she is busy, well, we might postphone the homework to another day.

  27. I don't believe in home work on the weekends.  This is a time to rejuvenate and refresh the mind for the next week's work.

Of course, I have at times made them re-do work on Saturday if they failed to complete it during their school days or just totally slacked off.  This has only happened a couple of times, because the kids have received the message loud and clear.

The same thing goes for homework in the evenings.  I homeschool, but when my son was in public school, I had to talk with the teacher regarding excessive homework in the evening.  Reading was okay, but he was not going to spend more than an hour on homework because the teacher failed to plan her day better.

My sister, a public school teacher, of course disagrees with me and believes that homework reinforces what they learned during the day.  I haven't found this to be true.  In many of my son's cases it was work she didn't get to that day, so they send it home.  Not appropriate.  I couldn't adquately help my son, because I may teach him a way that the teacher didn't agree with.

So, I guess I'd have to reiterate....no homework on weekends, except for those rare, necessary occasions.

ETA:  After reading some of the responses, I would like to add that my children are in no way in charge in my household.  I believe I am fair and consider their feelings, but my child isn't going to decide what they are or are not going to do.  If I decided they will do homework on the weekends they would, no debate.  While we use some form of unschooling, I believe that the education of my kids is still MY responsibility not THEIRS, so no matter what, I oversee their choices, and require certain minimum subjects be covered.  That's my job as a parent.  Just my two cents....
